Best pizza ever (with extra cheese)!! Service is not always that great. The calzones are also good!
This is the real deal when it comes to true New York style pizza. It is greasy like it should be. It isn't trendy and there are no fancy wheat crust gourmet impostors here. This is the true fresh home made thin crust grease wheels that made pizza popular in the US. It has been a staple to NW Dallas since I can remember. I am a fan. Al's is very reasonably priced and the atmosphere hasn't changed much since they first opened.
I've lived within a short stroll of AL'S PIZZERIA since 1991. It's the ONLY pizza we order because it's easily the most authentic "New York style" pizza offered in the city of Dallas. (And this includes SAL'S PIZZA on Wycliff near Maple, which is almost as good.)
The restaurant never moved, but it's location has gradually changed from a fading ...um... "regular" shopping center to a fading Mexican-interests shopping center, including a Mexican butcher shop at one end and an auto parts store at the other (where you can always see guys under the hoods of their cars in the parking lot). But Mexican / Guatemalan / El Salvadorian folks like pizza too and the place has thrived through the years. AND it's right across Northwest Highway from Bachman Lake, a great place to have a pizza picnic!
(Please note that the area is NOT some kind of "barrio," but is a neighborhood of increasingly Hispanic home-owners and other responsible people who work together to make it a comfortable and clean place. No matter how it may look to the passing Gringo eye, the crime rate here is lower than around White Rock Lake!)
AL'S serves serious 'za. They're big, they're "juicy" (i.e., greasy), they're hot and they always taste like somebody in the kitchen knows what in the hell they're doing. You'd be surprised how rare that is at most pizza places. You will find no acne-scarred, disaffected youth slinging disks of goo like at any Domino's in the country. AL'S doesn't run TV commercials claiming they have a Papa who knows what's best, either. AL'S just makes pizza and have been for about a quarter of a century. Every one is a gem.
There's more on their menu than pizza, of course, and it's all very, very good. (Garfield would LOVE their lasagna!) But it's the pizza on which they built their following and it's the pizza that is their mainstay. This is no hole-in-the-wall place, either. They offer a big, airy dining room and table service after you order at the counter.
The authenticity extends beyond the actual pizza, by the way. When approaching the counter with your order, you'll always find a no-nonsense person who briskly takes your order and then dismisses you to await your pie. There is little to no smiling and fawning over customers and it's strangely comforting, like actually being in a New York pizza shop!
AL's could use some decorative updating for sure, but it is as perfect a pizza place as you can find. (Including an excellent beer selection and the slices of authentic New York cheesecake that's available.)
When you want crap on a plate, call Domino's or Papa John's or one of those other places that must relentlessly advertise to convince you to choke down their offerings. When you are looking for a sublime pizza moment in your life, head over to AL'S. It's as simple as that.
Great food - best in the area. Been a favorite of mine for nearly six years.
My family and I have been going to Al's for as long as I can remember so maybe I don't care about the "dilapidated" condition others think. They've had the same decorations and menu items since they've been open and without it it wouldn't be Al's. So I know what to expect about the food and atmosphere. And I love, it's like home to me. I always get a slice of pepperoni with ricotta cheese, dinner salad with creamy italian and a beer. I don't care with anyone says about Al's, I love it and always will!!!
Woohoo! So glad this place is open again. Not too crazy about the location and the seating. Doesnt have that cozy feeling anymore. Its more like get your food and get out. Still awesome pizza and calzones!
They are OPEN! the store front faces the Walmart parking lot. The pizza is as good as ever!
This is my weekly ( sometimes twice weekly ) Italian fix. Mmmmmm mmmmmm, I'm a from scratch cook, and I make my own sauces, but I will put my pan down any day for their culinary excellence. A true Dallas institution I'm proud to patron. If you remember the food from the previous location, then run as fast as you can because Al's is back baby!!!!!!!!!!
Best pizza in Dallas
This is still the Al's I remember visiting frequently with my family for the last 20 years.
I hadn't visited since they relocated after the area was redeveloped, and I wish I'd done it sooner. I ordered what we would always get - large, with sausage, green olive and fresh garlic. The cashier (who I remember from the old location) even gave us a bonus free topping!
The pizza was just as I remembered; crispy on the bottom, thin but not too thin, soft on top. Toppings laid on thick, nice and evenly. I ate three pieces, and that's a LOT for a large here!
They kept the tin plates, which I LOVE! And it was my lucky day, because an order was placed that wasn't picked up. The cashier and another lady employee offered us part of that order free so it wouldn't go to waste. We were very grateful, and the wings were delicious!
I'm glad I went to the new location and will absolutely be back, and I'll bring my family too. The location may have changed, but the friendly staff and superb pizza sure haven't. If only the Ms. Pack Man machine was still there, haha!
I am very happy to report that the owners are now operating the business again. The pizza quality is back to wonderful and the pizzas are made correctly every time. I love Al's Pizza and I'm very happy that the owners are running the business again.
I ordered a veggie deluxe & chicken on white sauce pizza. It was delicious!!! It was fresh and the crust was good.
Great new York City like pizza nice and greasy...
Food is consistently good. Sometimes service can be questionable, but I'll keep coming back.
Pretty good!! Shucks, they do deliver to me :-(
Best pizza place in Northwest Dallas !!! I'm happy it's back in our Bachman lake area. Must try their spinach pizza my favorite.
I got a calzone here today and it was great! Huge portions for a good price, too: I had leftovers to save for another day's lunch. I'd definitely go back here and recommend it (next time I'd probably share a calzone, though, if I wanted a lunch portion). :)
I can't understand someone not loving the pizza at Al's. They must be brainwashed from too much Cici's. Al's Pizza is off the chain!
Been coming here since I was a kid. Their pizza and the rest of their menu is always delicious and satisfying. I hope they expand soon in their new spot!
Had a medium pepperoni pizza with my little brother (35yrs) and water. It was great, we really enjoyed it. The tiramisu is delicious also.
Terrific pizza with fresh ingredients and a yummy crust. They also have friendly and helpful staff.
Awesome Pizza Joint
This little tiny hole in the wall pizza place is the best in Dallas. Written up numerous times over the years in D-Magazine. Huge slices of pizza at a great price. Salad, beer, and a t.v. for watching sports make this a homey place. Very kid friendly too.
Great pizza! But I have had better!
I think that they have really good pizza and all, but I have had better from a place that I cannot disclose. I think that this place has fair prices and great pizza.
Great tasting pizza!
We eat at Al's every time we get a chance to go to Dallas! We have celebrated many family events there-the pizza comes in huge slices with lots of fresh garlic available to shake on it, the salad is fresh and the beer doesn't taste watered down. Close to Love Field, so when your guests get off the plane, you can head straight to Al's. Just an all-around comfortable place to hang out!
good but greasy
This pizza has some of the best sauce and cheese. Standard toppings and a lot of grease but this is grat NY style pizza. We get it to go too. The calzones are my fav.
You don't have to join the mafia to eat at Al's but you may see some of the "family" when you're there. The absolute best New York pizza this side of New York City! The ingredients are so fresh that you will slap yourself for not learning about Al's until now. The cheese is to die for! The pizzas and calzones and lasagna will make you think you're in Italy! The service is great so don't let a big crowd bother you...your food will be out quickly, there's TV to watch and there's a good selection of beverages and great salad to get you started. You can't get better Italian at any price....

Great pizza. Great people. Great prices.

Cons: Often overlooked, as it's in a strip center behind Henry Chen's.
Best Pizza in Northwest Dallas I must say !!!! I'm so happy it's back in our Bachman lake area. I always do pick-up orders to take home must try their spinach pizza my favorite.
Al's Pizzeria has been around since the early 80's if not longer! It was a right of passage for anyone who lived in the Dallas Love Fields/Bachman Lake area. It was displaced over a year ago because of Walmart. But now it is coming back! They have the tastiest pizza and calzones I have ever tasted! I can't wait for them to reopen (Ignore the date listed). They have the new sign up and the windows are covered waiting for the big reveal. I couldn't see a sign for the opening date but it is soon. I do know they applied for a liquor license so we will be bale to get our drink on while devouring awesome food! I don't know about y'al but I am bouncing off the walls Tigger-Style with excitement!
This place is the bommmmmmb!!!! Pizza is to die for and so is their checked Alfredo. Feels like a lil restaurant but with a "Togo" turnaround time. Definitely the best for sauce and goodness in a bowl and on a crust. Bathrooms and restaurant is suuuuper clean. Price is worth the food.
I ordered a large sicilian pizza with pepperoni , sausage and mushrooms and the Italian sausage with cheese. The toppings on the pizza could have been a little more plentiful, but other than that it was very good, and the sub sandwich was delicious.
I will definitely order from Al's Pizzeria again.
I've had pickup dinners here several times. Everything I have had has been good.
I've never had their pizza (bad of me, I know). The lasagna and spaghetti and meatballs are definitely good.
Love this place- I'm a native New Yorker and everything I have ever had here has been awesome!! Our go to for everything from pizza to pasta and chicken parm. :-)!!!
I love their Stromboli's they are filled with lots of great cheese and lots of meat, the sauce is home made and awesome.
We had 3 pizza slices - all were good sized and I would say the pizza was very good - on the better side for Dallas. Had a side of sauce and it was good, but not great.
Good pizza, very consistent. An XL pizza will run about $16, and one and a half or two slices is good for a meal. That usually boils down to four sittings for my girlfriend and me, so pretty decent value.
I'm from NYC, so I'm a bit of a pizza snob. There aren't many pizza places in Dallas that have decent NY style pizza. This place is pretty good! I had a cheese slice with spinach and a side salad with balsamic dressing. It was less than $8 and also pretty tasty.
This is pretty much my neighborhood pizza choice. There are a couple other options for pizza in the area, but I like their pizza the best. Typically I will get a cheese pizza to share and that will suffice. It's greasy, but it's good pizza.
I have tried some of the other foods - salad, garlic bread, garlic knots, calzone, etc. - but they aren't the reason I come here. Actually, I didn't like the pepperoni calzone at all because it was 2/3 ricotta cheese. If you want Stromboli, sandwiches, and other foods, go elsewhere. If you want pizza, come here.
My suggestion is to call the pizza in ahead of time and then pick it up on your way home. The service in the restaurant is not very attentive so your best bet is to eat it at home.
